Mechanical abrasion while charging the ovens is
unavoidable but can cause charge-hole refractory
to quickly crack and spall, destroying the seal.
Fibre-reinforced refractory withstands such mechanical
wear to maintain an efficient seal against emissions
and expensive energy loss.

Battery Top
Vibration, thermal expansion and the need for
good thermal insulation places particular demands
on this application's refractory. A castable reinforced
with fibres is extremely tough and will minimise
energy loss and mechanical wear.

Ascension Pipes
Hot waste gases and particles can impact and
erode this refractory lining, reducing thermal
efficiency and increasing maintenance costs. In
this application fibres can improve refractory
toughness by more than 100%, thereby halving maintenance
costs.
