| Porous Media – Membranes
Metallic membranes with 50-95% porosity are available in a range of alloys, stainless steels and Fecralloys (e.g. 22Cr5Al3YFe), with the porosity, dimensions and metallurgy made to match customer’s requirements.
Alternatively, Fibretech offers a consultancy service, working with customers to design new specifications that optimise;
- Flow
- Temperature stability
- Reactive surface area
- Durability
Unlike other membranes, Fibretech’s product is a labyrinthine structure, achieving a quicker, more efficient hydrogen/air mix, within a smaller volume, saving weight and space without sacrificing efficiency.
Membrane fibres are joined by welding, brazing or sintering, depending on the membrane flexiblity required, to ensure durability and therefore a consistent performance long-term.
Similarly, Fibretech membranes can be welded, brazed or sintered to other adjacent components to reduce manufacturing costs.
Membranes can also be pre-oxidised to enhance the adhesion of any washcoats and catalytic coatings, to ensure long-term efficiency.
Fibres for Powder
Fibretech can manufacture Hydrogen storage alloys, e.g. 60Ni30LaFeBZn by Rapid Solidification as short, fine, reusable fibres, offering a low-cost alternative to the hydrogen storage metallic powders currently used.
Fibres will handle and fill like powders, but form a more open structure for better hydrogen flow and the avoidance of blockages.
The high surface area of each fibre then offers :
- High reactivity
- Faster storage
- More storage
- Temperature stability
- High heat transfer
- Durability
- lower cost
Fibretech offers full R&D, Pilot Plant, Pre-Production and Production facilities from its premises in Nottingham UK , ensuring a tailored product that is fully scaleable.
